Blog #2 Hiring Process at Gila River Casinos

"How long is this going to take???" asks every employee, after their hiring manager offers them a position.

To begin working for the Gila RivercCsinos isn't easy.  Well, to be more specific, the food and beverage department. Otherwise, known as Spectra by Comcast Spectator. Trust me, I've done this twice. You have to attend drug screening, fingerprints, and orientation. GEEZ! There's so much to do..

Let me walk you through this endless process. Follow along.

First you have to fill out an application, like any other job. The regular stuff applications ask how you heard about them, your desired pay, skills, and work history. There's not much to the application. The casino just wants to know who they are hiring. So, they ask if you're a tribal member, if so what's your tribe number? They want to know if you've worked for them before. Simple things to answer.

Once you put in your application, you begin the waiting game. You have to wait for the hiring manager to call you. If they are hiring, the call won't take long at all. He or she will call to set up an interview within the next few days. I was told to call them back? Then nobody answered me, very disappointing. Since, it's a casino you're applying for don't be surprised at the interview time, it could be really early or really late. Iv'e been interviewed at 5 in the morning and watched someone get interviewed at 11 at night. The time just depends on when that manager will be there.

When you meet face to face with a manager take it easy. No pressure and don't be nervous. The interview is very casual. They are really interviewing your personality, since you will be interacting with guest 99% of your day. Usually, you're hired on the spot. Depending on who's hiring you, you'll move on to the next step right then and there, or they'll make you wait until your application processes. My manager made me wait for my application to go to Human Resources. I had to wait 4 more days to sign paper work with my manager. Then those papers are sent to Human Resources again. "How long is this going to take?"

Now you have to wait for a call, from Human Resources, to schedule your drug screening and orientation. I waited another week, I would say. Once the person from HR calls you they schedule your appointment for the next week. Specifically, drug screening and orientation is held on Wednesdays. I have no clue why.

As another week goes by, it's time for drug screening! So, you walk in the HR office, take the elevator to the second floor, and the conference room is on your right when you get off the elevator. There's probably going to be another 14 or 15 people there, as well. PAPERWORK. You get a packet to fill out by Monday. They want to know everything bout you. Where did you live the past 5 years? Where have you worked in the past 5 years? Criminal background in the past 7 years? Lots of questions. FYI shoplifting will not let you go past this part. Anyways, you bring this packet back, when you do your fingerprints.

You have 3 active days to bring this packet back. If they don't call you by 10 am the next day, you have the green light to take your packet to HR. HR then notarizes your paperwork at sends you down to GRGE, Gila River Gaming Enterprise, to get your finger prints and your badge. When you goe downstairs it takes a long time. I had 1 person in front of me this time, and it took about an hour. So, make sure you have nothing planned.

After, finishing with GRGE, you go back upstairs to Spectra HR. Then, they give you your On-The-Job orientation dates. The orientation days are Tuesday, 8:00-4:00, Wednesday, 8:30-12:00 and 12:30-2:30, and Thursday 8:30- 12:00 and 12:00-4:00. You have to attend all of the training required for you position, to begin working. These consist of new hire orientation, Bloodborne Pathogens, Alcohol Training/ Certification, Micros and Cash-Handling, and Suspicious Activity and Food handlers.

All the orientation and training is complete! Yes, finally. Now, you proceed to picking up your uniforms and getting your schedule.

Overall, it takes about a month to start working. That's a loooong process, if you ask me. If you choose that route to work for one of the Gila River Casino's, have fun and enjoy the process. GOOD LUCK! XOXO, Destinie

Blog #1 Blogs. Blogs. Blogs.

Before this class, I had no idea what blogging was. Not only did I not know what it was, but I had no intentions of ever writing one. I'm not going to lie to you. I was a little scared as the lecture of me having to blog was being discussed. What was a blog suppose to look like? What do I write about? I had so many questions. After my blogged introduction, formatting with pictures and text was quite easy to learn. I can do it. I have faith in myself.

Immediately after my lecture, I researched blogs. I stumbled upon many different blogs. I, personally, like blogs. I had no idea my twitter, facebook, and instagram were blogs. Most of it was pointless, but it was still blogging. It's informative and fun. I plan to write blogs that have a purpose and are effective. Those blogs grab attention and have audiences reading daily. I want to be a big blogger to reach out to others.

This is part of a comic strip from September 9, 2015.
Go to this blog to see the rest :D

After browsing the web, for a little bit, I came across this blog "The Odd 1s Out." An 18 year old male from here, Arizona, makes comics on his free time, so he's pretty enthusiastic. I find his blog amusing. Not only are there comics, but there are videos too! If it weren't for all the the pictures in the comic strips, I don't think I would be as interested. It's a fun personal blog. He obviously wrote this to entertain his audience, which could be literally anyone. I'm one that's entertained, and I look at his page everyday for new comics.

Next is the blog of a young female based in N.Y.C, Yanyi. She has a youtube channel and a blog page, missyanyi.com. Her blog is about fashion, beauty, and life. It includes "how to's" and "DIY" blogs that link to her very own youtube videos, where she walks you though her videos step by step. She also has reviews on beauty and clothes, tips about health, and make-up tutorials. I find Miss Yanyi's blog attention getting. It's organized and easy to navigate, which I like. By reading my discussion, I'm sure you see it's clearly for feminist. Her blog is formal, and she clearly wants to inform females. Her personality is shown in her writing, "Natures' gift to beauty gurus I call it ! :)" It's like I really know her!

I've come across a blog I absolutely do't like. The Huff Post didn't grab any of my attention. To be honest I read the first couple sentences and exited out. It LOOKED boring. And polotics does not grab my attention. There was no use of different colors. It looked organized by the glance I had of the website. I'll never ever go to this website again. Not even to give it another chance. Nope. I think it's super professional, and not for readers like me.

Reviewing blogs hasn't really changed my opinion. I like blogs, in general, Just because they are so informative. Politics is just not my thing to read about. I will leave that to someone who has better understanding of what's going on. I'll stick to my funny and girly blogs. lol XOXO, Destinie.

Me, Myself, and I

Hey guys. I'm pretty sure this is new to everyone in ENG 101, well I hope so. I don't want to be the only one that has no clue how to work this "Blogger" site. I'm not gonna lie. I'm super psyched about this assignment. I've never written a blog before, so I don't know where to begin.

HERE GOES MY FIRST ATTEMPT...

I'm guessing this is the part where I introduce myself, right? Alright, we'll start with the basics. My name is Destinie Marie Canez. I'm 20 years old, and my birthday is the 29th of October. I'm a 90's baby. Yay! 21 here I come. My favorite colors are pink and maroon. Almost everything I buy has to be pink from my nail polish to my notebooks. Everything is PINK.I'm currently pursuing an Associate's in Applied Science. I'm undecided on my major, sooooo I'm just taking core classes right now. That's the basics. You wanna know more.. TRUST ME. Keep reading.

Lets get a little more in depth about me.

Pineapples, dogs, pictures, and the outdoors.
I LOVE THESE THINGS!

Ok, ok. Listen up guys and girls. Are you listening? To be my friend you have to give me pineapples. Yes. Pineapples are that serious to me. I'm only joking ok, we can be friends without pineapples. But that would be nice if you got me one!

Dogs. Dogs. Dogs. And more dogs. I love dogs. Little dogs, big dogs, curly dogs, fluffy dogs, you get the point. Well, this is my dog Moo Moo. He's cute, huh? I know we get that a lot. When I first got him his name was Tyrion. How do you even say that? I had no idea so that's why he's Moo Moo. He also looks like a cow but in a little version so that makes sense. He is my baby. He's spoiled and gets his way, most of the time. He's about 6 months old now, and the brattiest dog I have ever come across, but I still love him.

I absolutely love pictures. Selfies are my favorite types of pictures. I swear, I take like 200 pictures at one time. Honestly, I think i could be a photographer if I wanted, but I'll stick to my iPhone camera. It works pretty good for me. You should see my Instagram.←

My boyfriend and I fishing, this past summer.
One more thing. I admire the outdoors. The smells of burning wood and wet dirt. The bright, yellow sun and pine trees whistling in the breeze. If I could, I would probably live outdoors! Camping is my favorite outdoorsy place, and fishing is my "go to" when I'm there. I have the patience to sit there for hours. It's so relaxing.

It irks the hell out of me when someone uses my belongings and doesn't put it back. Oh my gosh. Seriously, it's not that hard to put it back where you found it. Or at that, I hate when anyone takes my things without asking.. *takes deep breath* I'll just leave it at that before I get crazy.

One day, hopefully soon, I hope to go to UofA. Since I was around 10 years old I've wanted to be a Wildcat. You're probably like why, what's so good about UofA? Let me tell you. Jennie Finch was a Wildcat. I bet your'e thinking, "Who's this Jennie Finch?" Dude. Seriously? She's my freaking idol. Finch played softball for the University of Arizona and USA. SHE WAS THE BEST. Point. Blank. I can't wait to step foot on Hillenbrand Stadium's field she played on. UofA, HERE I COME.

I can't think of anything that makes me unique as of this moment, but the fact that I am so patient with others makes me standout. All of my emotions stay locked up inside me until the end of the day when I'm alone. People can piss me off, make me wanna cry, and so much more but there I am acting like nothing is wrong. It's not unique, but it's not a trait a lot of people have.

I hope this is how you blog, because I spent a lot of time on this. Well this it it, you know a little about me now. I hope you liked my introduction, and hope you follow my blog to stay updated with me. Bye everyone!

XOXO, Destinie.
